WFN Reader's Reaction

WFN appreciates hearing from our readers. We encourage you to continue giving us feedback on articles we print in the newsletter and events that we hold. However, publication of this letter is not an endorsement of the author's views.

The Women's Freedom Network received a letter on March 29, 2001 from a reader, Leonard Rubin. We would like to share with you some of what he had to say, about the article "The Advantages of Workplace and Campus Dating", by Russell Eisenman, from the January/February 2001 edition of the Newsletter.

Dear Editor,

It is hard to get mad at a publication I value and that firmly places itself in an unpopular political position resembling my own. I am conscious in particular, of taking the role of white male telling others what I think they should do.

Be that as it may, allow me [an] objection to the [January/February edition of the] Newsletter. In the article ["The Advantages of Workplace and Campus Dating"] by Russell Eisenman, [he wrote], "Men are attracted to youth, health, and beauty ... On the other hand, women ... have a preference ... for men with power, status, financial resources ..."

This notion is presented here as though it represented the entire theory of human sexual desire. The editors, if not the author, needed to add a qualifying paragraph.

Sincerely,

Leonard Rubin
